Goats for Panchase - Nuwakot

2026

The village of Panchase lies just a few hours from Kathmandu, but its development remains severely underdeveloped. The region was badly damaged in the 2015 earthquake and is still in the process of rebuilding. While a school and an administrative building have since been constructed, the living conditions of many families have barely improved.

Access is via a partially rebuilt, basic road, and electricity has only recently been installed. Many houses are still only provisionally repaired, and poverty is clearly visible. Narayan visited the village personally and assessed the situation on the ground.

The village is home to approximately 35 families, including several single women who are responsible for their families. Goats provide these families with meaningful and sustainable support, contributing to self-sufficiency and income.

The plan is to acquire young, healthy, high-quality goats. Due to the geographical distribution of the families, the intention is to share two male goats to facilitate breeding.
As with previous goat projects, implementation will take place in close consultation with the villagers and local contacts.

Project Information

Planned expenses: +/- CHF 8,787

Costs approximately:
£220 USD per animal including transport.
£1,200 USD per breeding male including transport.

We calculate using an exchange rate of 0.87, as this fluctuates and we also have to pay commissions.

The Power of Goats
Goats not only provide nutritious milk and meat, enriching an often monotonous diet, but also valuable wool and other byproducts for daily use. Furthermore, they are easy to raise and require minimal resources, making them a simple way to secure a livelihood.
As of January 2026 - The idea
Narayan visited the village and sent us the first pictures. According to him, the village would be very suitable for our goat project, as the people haven't had much opportunity to learn about the reconstruction since the earthquake.
