Scholarship transfers made more difficult: Stricter controls
July 11, 2025
This year, we transferred the scholarships for 16 children. Unfortunately, I just received a call from Narayan: the bank is holding the money because WIR BEWEGEN isn't a single entity. We've never had this problem in the last ten years. There's an increasing attempt to control the money coming into the country – it's shameful. Now we'll see if the money is returned or if, hopefully, it will still be forwarded to Narayan. However, I'm confident that the funds arrived at the school in time for the start of the school year, so all the children can continue their education.
Update July 12, 2025: Narayan has now received the money after all – minus 5% + $5. This is because the money came from an "agency." It's becoming increasingly complex to transfer larger sums – everyone seems to want to profit from it. Yet another example of how corrupt this country is – Nepal is still one of the poorest countries in the world. But even aid supplies and funds are subject to "taxes" – which undoubtedly end up in someone's private pocket. I'm rather angry and hope to find new ways to do this...
What can we learn from this? In the future, we will no longer process transactions directly through the association account. We have already consciously transferred smaller amounts regularly, both via private accounts and the association account, to keep individual transfers to a minimum. Since the authorities are increasingly scrutinizing the flow of money into the country, we will use the name " WIR BEWEGEN " even more cautiously in the future. For example, if the government were to come across our website and realize how much we have accomplished in Nepal in recent years, there could be consequences that we would prefer to avoid.
