Blockade to India | No fuel

October 21, 2015

Our second trip to Nepal is about to begin, and once again, what awaits us there isn't entirely clear.

The current government in Nepal is still very young, having been elected by the people in 2013. During that year, the government finally managed to agree on a constitution. However, several small fringe groups disagree with it. One of these groups lives in the south of the country, on the border with India. The Indians sympathize strongly with this group and have therefore established a road blockade. As a result, no goods can currently be imported from India. There is a shortage of various resources throughout the country, especially gasoline.
The official media account is different, claiming that the Nepalese are blocking the road. However, we are relying on reports from our friends on the ground.

Due to this blockade, no building materials have been ordered or delivered to Bhumibol. Our friend Narayan isn't even able to travel to his village during the holidays, as buses and other forms of public transport are scarce, or only available at exorbitant prices.

We'll see what happens in the next few weeks; as always, our friends are optimistic that things will move forward.
