It deeply saddens us to follow the situation in Nepal.
The country urgently needs supplies, and even more urgently, fuel to drive reconstruction – but the blockade at the border with India remains in place, and there is no end in sight.
For this reason, we have had to postpone our second trip until the end of February with heavy hearts.
The people of Bhumesthan want to show us how the donated money is being used, how the reconstruction is progressing – this would be impossible before our arrival in two weeks. It wouldn't even be guaranteed that we would be able to travel to the village.
The political situation is difficult to assess. After the earthquake, Narayan told us, it was the Chinese who helped and did invaluable work – India, on the other hand, seemed more interested in the media spotlight than in providing constructive assistance.
Therefore, it is hardly surprising that China is the first glimmer of hope since the blockade. The first fuel deliveries should arrive in Kathmandu this week.
The country is doomed without the help of its neighbors. India or China – there is no other way.
For us, this means we now have a little more time to prepare for our next trip and will continue to provide the best possible information about the situation in the country
