Goats for Grang

2022

Christine Herzog was in the Langtang area on her trip through Nepal with Narayan in spring 2022. They visited the village of Grang (Kalika Rural Muncipality) of Singi Tamang (mountaineering friend of Narayan), where families of the Tamang ethnic group live. The area was badly affected by the 2015 earthquake and the people are very poor.

This village would be very grateful for help and could use the milk and a few breeding animals to noticeably increase the standard of living.

Breeders were then contacted, the animals were collected and brought to the village - you can find out more about this in the news.

In September 2022, Maya traveled to Grang to officially hand over the animals to the families at a ceremony.

My personal expenses such as flights, hotels and meals were of course paid privately again.

In 2021, the Lions Club Hochwald-Hermeskeil (DE) gave us a generous budget of €5,000 to implement a meaningful project in Nepal... After many conversations and a long search, we decided to help the village of Grang .

Project information

As of June 2022

Narayan travels to the village of Grang with his friend Singi Tamang
- Contact breeders (availability + price)
- Organize transport

As of July 2022

The goats are on their way to Grang.

Mr Som Bahadur Tamang looks after the herd until we can hand it over to the village in an official ceremony.

As of August 2022
The budget was increased so that there is now enough for the breeding ram. We really hope that this can be purchased by the end of the month so that I can hand over the entire herd on my trip.
As of September 2022
The animals were handed over - especially the older people had incredible gratitude in their eyes when our eyes met. These looks, saying so much without words, is what I experience again and again in Nepal.

Handover ceremony

The animals were handed over at an official ceremony on August 30, 2022.
