Goats for Grang

2022

In spring 2022, Christine Herzog traveled through Nepal with Narayan in the Langtang region. They visited the village Grang (Kalika Rural Municipality) of Singi Tamang (a mountaineering friend of Narayan), where families of the Tamang ethnic group live. The area was severely affected by the 2015 earthquake, and the people are very poor.

This village would be very grateful for help and could really use the milk and some breeding animals to significantly raise its standard of living.

Breeders were then contacted, the animals were gathered and brought to the village - more information can be found in the news.

In September 2022, Maya traveled to Grang to officially hand over the animals to the families in a ceremony.

My personal expenses, such as flights, hotel, and meals, were of course paid privately.

In 2021, the Lions Club Hochwald-Hermeskeil (DE) generously granted us a budget of €5000 to implement a worthwhile project in Nepal... After many discussions and a long search, we decided to support the Drf Grang .

Project Information

As of June 2022

Narayan travels with his friend Singi Tamang to the village of Grang
- Contact breeders (availability + price)
- Organize transport

As of July 2022

The goats are on their way to Grang .

Mr. Som Bahadur Tamang is watching over the herd until we can officially hand them over to the village in a ceremony.

As of August 2022
The budget has been increased, so there's now enough for a breeding ram. We're really hoping he can be purchased by the end of the month so I can hand over the entire herd when I travel.
As of September 2022
The animals were handed over – especially the older people had incredible gratitude in their eyes when our eyes met. These looks, saying so much without words, are something I experience again and again in Nepal.

Handover ceremony

The animals were officially handed over at a ceremony on August 30, 2022.
